Getting Repairs Made

From the time you move into an apartment until the time you leave, you have a right to a safe and decent place to live. Under the law, landlords must keep the property they rent in good condition. The fact is—not all landlords follow the law. If this happens, you need to know your rights. This chapter tells you what your landlord's responsibilities are and what you can do if your landlord is not making repairs. You will also find in the Forms section a detailed checklist to help you evaluate the condition of your apartment, as well as sample letters and forms that can help you assert your right to a decent place to live.
