Can I apply through the Internet?

YES! You can apply for your own SNAP benefits on-line through the Virtual Gateway or by following the SNAP application steps on DTA’s webpage. The online “web application” is also in Spanish and Portuguese.

You can apply from your home, library or wherever you have access to a computer. Note: It is very difficult to file a SNAP application through Virtual Gateway with a smart phone because it is not “mobile friendly.”

Your electronic signature is your agreement that the information you provide to DTA is truthful and accurate. You agree you will report changes when required, and you agree you understand your rights and responsibilities to follow the rules. During the phone interview, a SNAP worker should go over these rights and responsibilities. See Does DTA have to interview me?

Since the current web application does not have any fields that ask for the amount of your shelter or child care costs, we recommend you send (through DTA Connect, by fax or by mail) DTA a hand-written statement (signed and dated) telling DTA much you pay in shelter and child care costs. See What is the child care/dependent care deduction? and What is the shelter deduction and how is it calculated?
