If you are under age 20, you have a right to file your own application for TAFDC benefits without your parents, even if you live with them. But there are some special TAFDC rules for parents under 20.
- If you are under age 20 and pregnant or a parent, you must be in school full-time or have graduated from school.
- If you are under age 18, you must also meet special living arrangement rules.
Note:
As of February 1, 2024 DTA phased out the use of “teen parent” and now uses “parents under 20” and “parents under 22” instead. DTA now calls the “teen living program” the “young parent living program.” The “teen specialist” positions are now referred to as a DTA self-sufficiency specialist (SSS) and the DCF young parent liaison.
