Before you file for bankruptcy, you need to:

  • Read the “Notice to Consumer Debtors”.
  • Get copies of your credit reports.
  • Find out about all your debts.
  • Record a declaration of homestead.
  • File your income tax return.
  • Get credit counseling, and
  • Gather your documents.

Filing without a lawyer

  • Bankruptcy is complicated. Filing without a lawyer is risky.
  • You can lose property and money. You can go to jail if you do not tell the truth.
