Get copies of your credit reports

To fill out your bankruptcy paperwork, get copies of your credit reports. You will need to ask three different credit bureaus. They are:

  • Equifax
  • Experian
  • Transunion

You can ask for free copies of your credit reports online, over the phone or in writing. Only www.annualcreditreport.com is free. Other websites may say they are free, but they are not. They will charge your credit card.

The phone numbers for the credit bureaus are:

  • Experian 877 322 8228 (877 FACTACT)
  • Equifax 1-800-685-1111
  • TransUnion 877-322-8228

You can also get a written copy of your credit report in the mail. If you have moved over the past few years, you may not be able to get your credit report online. The credit bureaus use your address to make sure you are who you say you are. If your address has changed a lot, they may not be able to make sure it is you. This often happens with Transunion.

Getting your credit reports may take a little while, so ask for them now. Be sure to ask for copies of all 3 credit reports.  The  3 reports often have different information.

Get a written copy of your credit report in the mail.

Filing without a lawyer

  • Bankruptcy is complicated. Filing without a lawyer is risky.
  • You can lose property and money. You can go to jail if you do not tell the truth.
