TAFDC stands for "Transitional Aid to Families with Dependent Children." It is cash benefits, also known as welfare. Families with children can get TAFDC if their income is low enough. TAFDC includes monthly cash payments, a yearly clothing allowance for each child, and payments for child care if the adult in the family is working or in an approved education and training program.
